Like a Good Neighbor
ideation, illustration, design
This project was done for a graduate course and was inspired by the style of pop artist Corita Kent. Each letter of the alphabet comes from a business in my neighborhood, Highlandtown. The large quotes are various references to pop culture—music, advertising slogans, etc., while the handwritten text are interpretations of those well-known phrases, using excerpts from politics, philosophy, literature, and scripture. The illustrations were compiled into a book, called Like a Good Neighbor, as each letter offers a different way to be "neighborly" in modern-day America.
