Letterforms & Lingerie

Letterforms & Lingerie
The Project
The following assignment was given to my Typography class: compare the evolution of type with the evolution of another object of our choosing—anything—and create a timeline showcasing the similarities of each progression. The format was left open-ended, as was our choice of comparison.
The Solution
I decided to compare the progression of typography with a subject matter I thought I'd be able to find striking imagery for: women's lingerie. The research and ideation process that commenced was both rigorous and fruitful. I had a hunch the comparison would be easy to make, but I had no idea just how similar the evolution would be. I learned so much, both about the history of typography and how closely fashion and design are linked. My final product, a small booklet, was able to highlight the similarities of typography and lingerie in an interesting, clear, and attractive way.
