Like a Good Neighbor: A Highlandtown Alphabet

Like a Good Neighbor: A Highlandtown Alphabet
The Project
The create a book on a topic of our choice in the style of a designer of our choice. I chose Corita Kent as my designer, a pop artist/nun who worked as the head of the art department at Immaculate Heart College in the 60s and 70s. A contemporary of Andy Warhol, she gained notoriety through her work, but faded back into obscurity after her death in 1988.
The Solution
Since she had done a couple of alphabet series, I decided to create an alphabet book based on the concept of being a neighbor. I took letters from businesses and landmarks in my neighborhood and paired them with quotes that I felt conveyed the message. Using State Farm's "Like a good neighbor..." tagline as a jumping off point, I found popular phrases and slogans from commercials and pop culture to mimic Corita Kent's style.
